Unlocking your phone while locked out

iOS app

Get the app from the App Store, then add the lock screen widget below. Unlike a notification, the widget is always visible on your lock screen — there is nothing to miss or accidentally dismiss.

Download on the App Store
Add the lock screen widget
  1. Touch and hold the lock screen until the wallpaper gallery appears, then tap Customize and choose Lock Screen.
  2. Tap the widget area just below the clock (Add Widgets).
  3. In the widget list, pick Lockmeout, then tap the My Lock widget to place it.
  4. Tap Done in the top-right corner to save. Your unlock code now shows right on the lock screen.
Choosing the Lockmeout entry in the Add Widgets list

3. Tap Done in the top-right to save.

Ask Siri, hands-free

With the app you can also just ask Siri for your unlock code and have it read out loud — no tapping required, even while the phone is locked.

Web App (PWA)

If you use the web app instead of the app, there is no lock screen widget — you rely entirely on push notifications. On iOS these only work once the web app is added to your Home Screen.

  1. Add the web app to your Home Screen from Safari (iOS 16.4 or higher) — see the install guide.
  2. Open the web app once and allow notifications when prompted.
  3. Configure the notifications to stay on the lock screen as shown in Notification setup below (Banner StylePersistent, Show PreviewsAlways), then send yourself a test and confirm you can read the code while locked.

Notification setup

These settings apply to both variants on iOS — whether you use the app or the web app (PWA). Turning on persistent, cleartext push notifications pushes the unlock code to your phone and keeps it readable straight from the lock screen.

Enable lock screen notifications
  1. Open the iPhone Settings app and tap Apps.
  2. Scroll to and select Lockmeout.
  3. Select Notifications.
Make notifications persistent
  1. Set Banner Style to Persistent, so the notification stays on screen instead of disappearing after a few seconds.
  2. Set Show Previews to Always, so the unlock code is visible even while the device is locked.
  3. To test, go back into the app. On the Settings page press Test for this device. You then have a few seconds to lock the phone before the test notification arrives.
  4. Make sure you can read the full test notification while the device is still locked.

Android

Coming soon

A native Android app with lock screen notifications is in the works and coming soon. In the meantime, the Web App (PWA) already works on Android — add it to your home screen to create locks and receive unlock-code notifications on your phone.
